Ellen M. Wilson 2014

Bio

Ellen M. Wilson Bio
For longtime performer Ellen M. Wilson, this foray into Adult Contemporary music isn’t so much a new venture as a return to her roots.  The singer and songwriter penned songs as a teenaged rocker before heading off to study classical music in college, followed by professional work in musical theater up and down the East Coast and in Germany.

But a more recent series of seemingly unconnected events led her back to the music of her heart and soul.

After the 2008 release of a solo album of songs and a signing to the Mid West Flawless Entertainment record label, Ellen’s return course seemed set when, in 2010, she met producer and singer/songwriter, T.L. Brown.  Discovering a musical connection that seemed to be heaven-sent, the team began collaborating on song writing.

The classically-trained college professor and the self-taught singer/songwriter/producer may not seem the likeliest of pairs, but the Wilson/Brown songwriting partnership has created a sound that bridges generational and cultural chasms with the ease of old friends.  It is no surprise that people of all ages can relate to their songs.

In the fall of 2011, an Artist Incubator Program grant from the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department and the Texas Commission on the Arts combined with an album deal from Tate Music Group gave the pair the support needed to write and record their first album together.  Destiny, which features the instrumental talents of guitarist Armin Harrison, bassist & cellist Dave Hamilton, and keyboardist TL Brown, saw its national release in August of 2012 on the TMG record label.

2013 saw the album Destiny gain reviews and airplay around the globe.  Ellen and TL begin to develop their concept for their second album together, which was temporarily sidelined when they came up with a new idea for an electronic pop single and music video:  A song about love across the miles with its music video specifically geared toward military couples separated by wartime.  For Ellen, a military spouse who has dealt with her share of deployments, the video concept was clear:  tell the story of a military wife enduring separation from her husband through the strength she derives from their love.

2012 saw the release of Wilson’s first album of original songs, Destiny, a project which came to fruition through an AIP Grant from the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Dept. (MCAD) and the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA), as well as a record deal with TMG Records.  In 2013, Destiny gained reviews and airplay around the globe.   Wilson’s live performances with her band were supported by a CAP Grant from MCAD and TCA, until her move out of El Paso due to a PCS move.
